December update, and Happy New Year!

Ok, so I think even if when I star writing I feel i can’t stop, the problem keeps being to actually sit and do it.
Yeah, I haven’t write in a month and my last post wasn’t the most positive of all. So I’ll just make and update of December’s activity and hopefully I’ll start writing more often and more about the mosaic making process.

December. I felt really excited about the possibility of having good sales for Christmas. First, I decided to do some promotion, so I tried The Little Black Box for the first time. Kim allowed me, very kindly, to participate on it even when she had already said it was full. Thanks, Kim!! So, I made a nice colored card, I glued two tiny tile magnets, just like the my Magsaics but smaller, and put it in a bag. They looked really cool. So I sent the package with -oh, i forgot if they were 25 or 50. Oops. I think they were 50. The box went on sale on December 5 (my birthday!) and the views in my shop went a little up but didn’t have any sale, yet. Maybe in the future.
I have to say that i had two sales in November, which took my expectations really high.

And on about December 15, feeling very disappointed, I realized (well, I read an opinion in an Etsy forum) that actually people don’t normally buy expensive gifts for Christmas! Specially in this bad economic times, but normally, if i would be buying let’s say, 10 gifts, it would be impossible to spend $30 or more on each of them! That made me feel more relaxed. My items are more a wedding, birthday, anniversary, special gifts. So I guess Christmas shouldn’t be a super season for my sales. Of course the promos will have some effect later!

But after that, came the better sales ever: FRIENDS! Yeah, i feel very lucky with the new friends i have now, not only because they are nice people, but also because they appreciate my work and even buy from me! So first, a returned client (those are the best) got a box for his mom. Then, another friend asked me for a custom work: a wall hanging with a beetle. I was very doubtful at the beginning, but it turned out well. And last, a couple of recently married friends bought gifts for their mothers and grandmothers… wow! (they don’t apply to the “lot of cheap gifts” kind of people, at least not for the great women in their lives, cheers for them!).

So, my friends made my Christmas and I’m eternally grateful for that. With the money, i was able to register for the 2009 Annual SAMA Conference next March. That is totally exciting!!!!

A lovely custom order

This was a custom order for a friend, he took the idea from another box that he saw here, but he asked for a bigger box and a change in the color. I had this box, really well done and finished that I was saving for a special request, and this fitted just perfect!
He also asked for a padding inside, that was something that I wanted to make but never took the time to figured how to do it. So, he putted me to think about it and it wasn’t much time until I realized how to make it. So, the next step was to find a nice purple fabric! and I think this ultra suede is perfect for my works: much more modern that velvet, and really soft.
I’m happy with the result, and so was he. Hopefully that lucky recipient of the gift thinks the same!

Boxes Gallery

I decided to simplify this blog and give it another use, since I already have my store at Etsy: www.CreasolMosaic.etsy.com
So, the first step was to make a Flash Gallery, which looks great, but doesn’t play on Blogspot! :(
So, Plan B, I made a simple movie in Slideroll. You can still see each of the boxes if you press “Boxes” on the right :)

Birdman Box

This box has a very special design made using the vitrofusion piece as a starting point. From its shades and lines comes the drawing in the mosaic, resulting in a figure that seems to be a bird-man with long curvy arms holding a piece of his own essence.
Vitreus glass in purple, lilac and red. Grout in two colors: purple and lilac.
The box measures 8″L x 5-1/4″W x 2.5″to 1-13/16″H, has divisions inside so you can organize whatever you want and also has a slope from the back to the front, allowing for easy access between compartments.

Fused glass in the middle, venetian glass in several colors and black stained glass.I love how the fused glass mixes with the design.

This beautiful and special wooden box has inside divisions, allowing it to be used as a jewelry box or as an office box for business cards, pencils or anything you want to put inside!
But what makes it even more special is its unique design. As you can see in the pictures, it has a slope from the back to the front, allowing for easy access beetwen compartments.

The center piece of this mosaic is a fused glass surrounded by a variety of blue, green and purple venetian glass and grouted with blue for a beautiful and relaxed object to look at.
The blue box measures 8″L x 5-1/4″W x 2.5″to 1-13/16″H
